1. Put your top skills and experience in your personal statement

A personal statement is a short CV introduction that tells an employer who you are, what you can do, and why you want the job.

Your personal statement should highlight key cleaning skills from the job advert (e.g., the ability to use carpet steamers or other specialist equipment). It should also give the employer a sense of who you are as an applicant — whether you’re reliable, have good customer service skills, or possess other soft skills relevant to the position.

Senior statement

2. List any relevant experience (including unpaid or voluntary work)

Each entry in your work experience section should include the following information:

  • Job title
  • Employer
  • Dates employed

Include a short bulleted list of relevant achievements or responsibilities — experiences that have prepared you for the cleaning job you’re applying for.

If you have previous cleaning experience (paid or unpaid), mention any practical tasks that align with your target job such as mopping floors, disinfecting surfaces, or handling laundry.
