17+ skills to list on your student nurse CV

Before you begin writing, make sure you know how to write a CV in a way that best emphasises your strengths.

As you’re writing your student nurse CV, include a mix of hard and soft skills to show you’re capable of handling all aspects of the job.

Hard skills are specific, teachable abilities that are needed for a certain job. For example, a nurse needs to know how to take blood pressure and give injections.

On the other hand, personality traits that help you interact with others and manage your work — interpersonal skills, for instance — are called soft skills.

For example, top soft skills student nurses should have are the ability to follow all protocols and provide excellent patient care. They also need to be able to handle stress, because nursing can be a demanding profession.

Medical employers won’t be interested in flashy formatting or distracting graphics, so use a simple CV template (and make a cover letter that matches) to keep the focus on your CV skills.

Good communication skills are also important, as nurses must relay information to doctors and other members of the healthcare team. Finally, student nurses should have an interest in healthcare and be motivated to help others.
