‘Mx’ stands for a gender-neutral title you can use to address people as an alternative to gender-specific titles.
Rather than the usual ‘Mr’, ‘Miss’, ‘Mrs’, or ‘Ms’ courtesy titles, use ‘Mx’ to start your cover letter if:
- you’re unsure of the recipient’s gender
- the recipient doesn’t identify with a certain gender or marital status
- the recipient goes by ‘Mx’ in other documents
