Here’s how you give a CV in person:
- Carry your CV in a folder or binder so it doesn’t get crumpled
- Dress appropriately for the industry and role (e.g., business wear for corporate job, stylish but neat casual clothing for a creative job at a youth-forward company)
- Go to the business at a time you’ll know they won’t be too busy (for example, avoid going to a restaurant during the lunchtime rush)
- Ask to speak to the recruiting manager (but if they aren’t available, ask if you can leave your CV for them, and include a short cover letter explaining why you’re applying)
- Introduce yourself and clearly explain why you think you’d be a great fit for the job
- Be prepared to do an interview on the spot
- Get a contact person’s email or phone number so you can follow up
- Follow up if you haven’t heard back within a week
